New website helps you navigate City streets during summer construction season
The City of Toronto is making it easier for you to avoid traffic delays this summer. A new website, http://www.toronto.ca/torontostreets, details road construction, current travel conditions and special events that can impact the length of your trips in the city.
The website is especially useful this summer considering the city's extensive 2010 road repair program. The City is spending more than $205 million to improve the quality of Toronto's roads and bridges. That work includes $45 million for major projects such as eliminating the Dufferin Jog and another $80 million on improvements and road work in conjunction with watermain and sewer replacement.
Toronto travel will also be affected by special or popular events. We will play host to the G20 Summit, the Shriners Convention and the Canadian Open Golf Tournament as well as regular events such as the Taste of Lawrence and other local festivals, the Pride Parade, Beaches Jazz Festival, Honda Indy and Caribana Festival.
Although the website will be as accurate and up-to-date as possible, city staff encourages you to contact the city's 311 phone operators to report significant disruptions that are not listed. Minor incidents and emergency repairs are not included on this site.
Bookmark this website as one of your favourites and use it before you leave home to find your best route for any city trip. You can also use the website to sign up for e-updates which provide the latest information about road closures and traffic disruptions in the city.
